For 30 Years, the MANLEY brand has been producing upper echelon high fidelity products as well as world-famous recording studio products in Southern California. Manley hifi products are primarily vacuum tube based designs. In 2018 we introduce to the world our new Absolute Headphone Amplifier, a stunning new feature-rich design unlike any other product on the planet.
1972 saw the introduction of Mark Levinson’s JC-1 preamplifier, a concrete, functional symbol of Mark Levinson’s approach to audio reproduction. It evidenced a signature blending of vision and science. It was the beginning of a series of groundbreaking audio components that reinforced America’s reputation in high end audio design.
Indeed, the JC-1 taught even hardcore audiophiles that tube components had no lock on aural truth. As the JC-1 evolved into the ML-1, it was joined by the ML-2 monophonic power amplifier. Mark Levinson then introduced the ML-3 power amplifier, a massive and ultra-stable dual-mono design that precisely controlled even the most difficult loudspeakers of its day.
By the mid ‘80s, despite innovations such as a fully modular preamplifier and extraordinary open-reel tape decks suitable for demanding studio recording sessions, Mark Levinson Audio Systems found itself in difficult financial straits. However, the Mark Levinson tradition of hand-crafted excellence was rescued by Madrigal Audio Laboratories, Mark Levinson’s “sister company” distributor. Key personnel regrouped to continue design and production. The reorganization brought needed fiscal discipline and an expanded engineering staff.
The timing was propitious. The audio industry was moving rapidly towards the digital CD as a prime music source. Although certainly not the first digital-to-analog converter to appear, Mark Levinson’s classic No. 30 reference processor was instantly hailed as the new sonic benchmark, an achievement that signaled digital’s “coming of age.” The following year, the No. 31 reference CD transport completedMark Levinson’s desire to offer the finest digital playback system. It, too, was hailed as a milestone in design, execution, and sound quality.
With the Mark Levinson name firmly established as a first tier supplier of components for the home enthusiast, Mark Levinson broadened its reach with a relationship with Lexus, Toyota’s luxury car division. Working closely with Lexus engineers, Mark Levinson leveraged its experience and the expertise of other automotive divisions of its parent corporation, Harman International, to provide audio performance that fully complemented the Lexus driving experience.
Today, more than three decades after the company’s inception, Mark Levinson continues to expand the horizons of audiophiles at home and on the road as well as those of home theater enthusiasts with components and systems that define accuracy, reliability, and enjoyment. Since 1972. The same name. The same enduring standards. The same extraordinary level of satisfaction.

Musical Surroundings is premiering the AMG Viella Forte turntable at a US Audio Show, the “super” version of our famous Viella. Machined in our Bavarian factory, the Forte incorporates the same platter bearing design, decoupled spindle, Lorenzi hand-built brushless DC motor, visual form and footprint of our highly regarded Viella. The AMG design team focused on mass, rigidity, and refinement to create the Forte, resulting in increased macro-dynamics, more inner detail, larger-scaled presentation, and greater effortlessness. Utilizing new materials and machining techniques, the Forte features a new plinth, platter, platter clamp, arm base, updated drive electronics, new power supply design and power supply housing.
Forte Plinth – CNC milled from solid aluminum billet, 70 mm thick and 23 kg weight (+280% larger than the standard Viella plinth at 25 mm thick and 8 kg). Platter bearing housing, motor housing, and feet directly machined from 70 mm aluminum billet provides higher rigidity and mass damping.
Forte Platter – CNC machined in house using aircraft-grade aluminum with decoupled spindle. Taller at 87 mm with a thicker inlaid PVC machined platter mat for a total weight of 14 kg (+120% larger than standard Viella platter at 72 mm and 11 kg).
Forte Clamp – New silhouette with larger shape, higher mass, and enhanced ergonomics. CNC machined in house using aircraft-grade aluminum and POM.
Forte Arm Base – CNC machined in house using aircraft-grade aluminum cylindrical stock, 35 mm bigger diameter and taller by 15 mm (+130% larger than standard Viella arm base).
Forte Drive Electronics – enhanced circuitry for faster start-up with larger Forte platter, mounted within mass-damped solid plinth.
Forte Power Supply – CNC milled from solid aluminum billet to echo the Viella shape. New toroidal transformer, additional voltage filtering for increased isolation from mains line fluctuations, and LED indicator for proper mains plug polarity.
The Viella Forte is available in both black anodized and a special Engraved version featuring a CNC machined geometric pattern and includes the AMG 12JT Turbo 12” tonearm.
AMG offers upgrade programs for existing Viella owners to purchase the Viella Forte complete with 12JT Turbo tonearm or just the Forte turntable if they already own the12JT arm. AMG offers upgrade kits to existing Viella owners to add the Forte platter, clamp and Power Supply.
